What You Need to Know About Surgery

This manual can help ease your mind about having an operation by letting you know what to expect before surgery and after surgery.

Owatonna Hospital's comprehensive surgical services team, which includes surgeons, registered nurses, surgical technologists, registered nurse anesthetists and an array of support staff, is here for you, close to home. Their expertise, skill and compassion, provide our patients with the highest quality surgical care available.

More than 5,000 surgical procedures are performed each year at Owatonna Hospital including both inpatient and outpatient (same day) surgeries.

Our four new 600-square feet operating rooms (ORs) are equipped with the latest surgical technology, offering patients the confidence and comfort they need when facing a surgical procedure.

In addition, our new Ambulatory Surgery Center features 18, 110 square feet, private, prep/recovery rooms, two endoscopy rooms and a dedicated laser eye room.

Owatonna Hospital has been designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement. Blue Distinction Centers for Knee and Hip Replacement demonstrate an expertise to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for patients, by meeting objective clinical measures developed in collaboration with expert physician panels and national medical organizations. To earn the Blue Distinction, Owatonna Hospital had to meet additional criteria around clinical outcomes, participation in the nationally recognized Surgical Care Improvement Project, providing peri-operative patient education, as well as establishing experienced surgical teams and quality programs.
