We’re building a new Emergency Department!

United’s Emergency Department remains open during construction

United Hospital’s Emergency Department is recognized as one of the busiest emergency departments in the Twin Cities and serves more than 44,000 people annually.

To meet our growing need, we’re building the new Peter J. King Emergency Care Center at United Hospital which will feature:

  • 27 examination rooms
  • Six psychiatric rooms to provide a safe and secure treatment area
  • 12 observation rooms
  • a larger bay to hold a minimum of six ambulances
  • decontamination area
  • in-department computed tomography (CT) device
  • patient care and family areas designed for greater privacy

United’s Emergency Department remains open during construction


From heart attacks to tornado victims, patients who come to United Hospital’s Emergency Department can be assured they will receive safe, high-quality care day and night.

The Emergency Department continues to operate at full capacity during this expansionBoard-certified emergency physicians provide emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Signs are posted throughout the hospital campus to direct you through the construction to the Emergency Department.
